Sharing God’s story can sometimes feel daunting.
What we often forget that God is always ahead of us preparing the way

The Bible reminds us that we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do (Ephesians 2:10). This is what Jade Wong discovered in her journey of sharing God’s love.

God Leads the Way

The journey began with circumstances that are far from ideal. “It all started with the back pain I had for two years. It was very painful,” Jade shared. After many attempts at dealing with the pain, she finally decided to go through a four-hour orthopedic surgery.

Initially, she was apprehensive about it. But God assured her with His promise in Deuteronomy 31:8, “The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

With this encouragement from God, she went on to arrange for an operation. But finding a doctor and setting a date weren’t so straightforward. There were unexpected changes here and there. With all these twists and turns, she sensed that God had something in store.

A Divine Appointment

“You can treat me as a sister,” Jade offered Evelyn. This started a friendship between them…

Despite going in for a fairly major surgery, Jade prayed for a divine appointment to be a blessing to someone. Indeed, God had prepared one. During her hospitalisation, Jade met a nurse who took great care of her. Evelyn (not her real name) is a foreigner in Singapore. She and her husband live here without any family or relatives. Aside from her colleagues, she didn’t have anyone who was really close to her.

“You can treat me as a sister,” Jade offered Evelyn. This started a friendship between them during the post-surgery recovery in the hospital. Evelyn shared how lonely she was being away from home. And with Covid-19, she was worried about her mum whom she hasn’t seen for two years.

On Jade’s last day in the hospital, Evelyn was meant to be on leave, but decided to come to the hospital anyway without really knowing why. Jade saw it as an opportunity to be a blessing and offered to pray for her.

Evelyn was hesitant since she was not a Christian. Jade assured her that she was only praying a blessing over her, and not converting her, so Evelyn agreed. Through the prayer, Jade shared about God’s love and story in her life — how God has blessed her, given her salvation through Jesus, and has been her source of help — and prayed that Evelyn would receive these blessings too. She went on to pray for Evelyn’s husband and family as well. Evelyn ended up in tears. She shared that she experienced such peace and rest while being prayed for. Evelyn herself also marvelled at how she was meant to be on leave that day, but came anyway and experienced an unexpected blessing.

Be a Blessing

Until this day, Jade and Evelyn continue to keep in touch. Evelyn recently went on an operation herself. She was very grateful for the support and prayers that Jade has been sending through WhatsApp.

How can we be blessings too? It doesn’t have to be complicated. A simple conversation can be a source of comfort. A simple prayer can be a testimony of God’s love. A simple text message can bring hope.

It is a privilege to share God’s love and story because it brings blessings to others. God has prepared the way, we just have to follow His leading!
